USS North Carolina

Writer: Erin EgnatzErin Egnatz

The USS North Carolina is a former battleship that was used during the second World War. She was commissioned months before the Pearl Harbor attacks drug the United States into the war. The North Carolina was one of the first ships mobilized after the Pearl Harbor attacks and remained so throughout the war. She saw action at many, if not all, of the major battles out in the Pacific including the Battle of the East Solomons. She was part of the Philippines campaign and was even part the battles at Iwo Jima and Okinawa by running offensive strikes. During the war, the North Carolina was torpedoed at least once (sadly resulting in several sailors deaths) but was able to continue sailing and was eventually decommissioned a few years after the end of WWII. Now the ship rests as a museum in Wilmington, North Carolina.

The USS North Carolina is said to be one of the most haunted places in North Carolina. There have been many reports of different apparitions appearing to visitor's around the ship. Doors and windows have slammed shut, loud footsteps are heard, feelings of being watched, cold spots, lights switching on and off and more have all been reported on the ship.

The USS North Carolina is yet another spot I am putting on my list of places to visit. Hopefully soon I will be able to get down there and check it out for myself! If you've ever been, I'd love to hear about it!
